Description

A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe that yields a soft and fluffy loaf.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
  3. Add the melted butter and the activated yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until the dough starts coming together. Transfer it to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
  7. Place the shaped dough into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Once baked, remove from the oven and let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, place a pan of water in the oven while baking.
  • Make sure the water temperature is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
