Description
A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe that yields a soft and fluffy loaf.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F or 43°C)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Extra flour for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
- Add the melted butter and the activated yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
- Mix until the dough starts coming together. Transfer it to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1 hours or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the shaped dough into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, place a pan of water in the oven while baking.
- Make sure the water temperature is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
