Description
A comforting green bean casserole made with fresh ingredients and topped with crispy onion strings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 tablespoons unsalted Butter
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 1 medium Onion
- 8 ounces Button Mushrooms
- 1 pound Fresh Green Beans
- 1 cup Low-Sodium Chicken Broth
- 10 ounces Cream of Mushroom Soup
- 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
- to taste Salt and Black Pepper
- 1 cup Crispy Onion Strings
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sauté the onions and mushrooms by melting butter in a large skillet. Add diced onion and sliced mushrooms, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Blanch the green beans in a medium saucepan by combining them with chicken broth. Bring to a boil and cook for about 8 minutes until they reach a crisp-tender texture, then drain them.
- Mix the filling by combining the cream of mushroom soup, sautéed vegetables, green beans, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Stir until well integrated.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased 2-quart baking dish. Top with crispy onion strings.
- Bake for 20 minutes until heated through and bubbly.
Notes
- The recipe can be made vegetarian by using vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
- For a lighter option, you can use light cream of mushroom soup.
- Adjust the amount of crispy onion strings based on your preference for crunch.
